Orders & the Designs Gallery
Where customer designs live after checkout — the Designs gallery, production downloads, design statuses, edit-after-save, and GDPR handling.
Once customers start designing, the Designs gallery in the app becomes your production queue — every submission with its files, one click from print.
The Designs gallery#
Open Designs in the app to see every saved customer design: thumbnail, template used, customer email (when known), date, and status. Click one to view the design read-only with download links for all its assets.
Statuses are simple:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Saved in the editor, not yet added to cart |
| Submitted | Added to cart / ordered |
| Archived | Removed from the active list |
Downloading production files#
Each design links its full asset set — preview JPEG, production PNG, print PDF, vector SVG, and cut-path die-line (production formats on Starter and above; see Production Files & Preflight).
The same URLs also ride on the Shopify order itself as hidden line item properties, so fulfilment can work entirely from the order screen without opening the app.
Customers can edit until checkout#
After adding to cart, customers see "Design attached · Edit design" on the product page. Edits re-export the assets to the same file URLs, so the links on the cart and order always serve the latest version — nobody prints a stale design.
Drafts are cheap, orders are what count#
Designing and saving costs you nothing — billing only counts paid orders containing a design (see Plans & Billing). Draft-heavy products are a good sign, not a cost problem.
Storage, done sensibly#
- Assets are stored durably and de-duplicated by content — fifty customers using the same stock photo store it once
- Uploads are auto-optimised for print (see Images), keeping files fast to download and light to archive
GDPR & privacy#
The app implements Shopify's full compliance webhook suite:
- Customer data request — a customer's designs and assets are bundled for export
- Customer redact — their designs and assets are deleted, reference-aware (shared assets still used by other designs are preserved)
- Shop redact — uninstall cleanup removes shop data on Shopify's schedule
Build the Designs gallery into your fulfilment routine: filter to Submitted, download, print, archive. Archived designs stay retrievable — archiving is a workflow state, not a delete.
